HP 940/940XL Warning of Low Ink

If you have just installed a refilled, remanufactured or compatible HP 940 or HP 940XL it is likely that it uses a HP original chip to identify itself to the printer. These chips use a combination of counting pages and average page coverage to estimate the amount of ink inside the cartridge. As they have no way to check the physical ink level in a cartridge, a chip that has been used previously will almost certainly warn of having low ink or even being empty once installed. The message should look similar to the one shown below:

To continue simply click OK in the bottom right of the message. As your printer will not warn you when the ink is running low we recommend keeping an eye on the quality of your prints and replacing the relevant cartridge when a colour begins to fade.

“CHANGE DRUM SOON” message after changing a Brother DR8000

The “CHANGE DRUM SOON” message will appear once your DR8000 drum unit nears the end of its life. We advise continuing to use your current drum unit until you begin to experience print quality problems before installing a new one.

If the clear plastic “starter sheet” is removed from the replacement drum before installation this message will continue to show . It is this sheet that actually resets the drum counter. If the sheet has already been removed you can reinstall drum with the starter sheet by following the simple steps below:

-Find the starter sheet. It will be a plastic sheet around 9″ long, with the center cut out. If you are using a Brother original drum it will state”Initialization of your new drum successfully completed. Please discard this sheet” on it but many compatible or remanufactured alternatives will say something similar.
-If you cannot locate the starter sheet, contact the Brother Customer Service or the appropriate Brother authorized dealer.
-Depending upon the model of your printer the next step will vary:

For printers with ADF (Automatic Document Feeder):

Open the cover of the scanner by pulling the lever under the control panel toward you and lifting the cover. Take the drum out of the printer and place the drum on some newspaper or another area that you don’t mind catching superfluous toner.

For printers with the Flat bed:

Open the cover on the front of the printer and take out the drum unit. Place the drum on some newspaper or another area that you don’t mind catching toner that may fall from the drum.

-With the drum unit pointing towards you position the starter sheet in the drum, below the section with a blue label. The flat side of the sheet is the part that goes inside the drum unit. Pull the starter sheet into the drum by using you finger to roll the black and white wheels on the left hand side of the drum unit (underside) in the front. Continue to pull it in this method until the “zig-zag” edge of the starter sheet is level with the “lip” on the drum.

-Install the drum into your printer again.
-With this done re-cllose the scanner cover/front cover.

The started sheet should then be ejected automatically.

Fix Printer ERROR 11 Paper Out

Error code 11 Problem: " Paper out" error message

Possible Causes and Solutions:

1. Paper tray empty or not seated correctly. First try to re-seat the paper tray by pulling it out, making sure there are no obstructions in it's path and reinsert it. A buildup of toner on the edges of the tray which slide into the printer can sometimes cause problems. Take a sharp tool, like a razor blade and scrape the buildup off these edges. Also, check for cracks in the cassette. The cassette will loose it's stiffness and keep from holding its shape when there are cracks or small guide tabs that break off.

2. Sensor Arm Stuck or Broken - check for free movement of the sensor arm. On the LJ4/4M/4+/4M+ the sensor flag can get knocked out of place when a paper jam occurs and the tray is pulled out abruptly. Most times this can simply be reinstalled. If it's broken, you will need to replace the sensor flag.

3. Defective Tray Size Sensing or Configuration - Most trays have tabs which depress a series of switches when installed. Verify that the tabs aren't damaged and that the tray switches located in the printer are not damaged. You can depress these by hand and hear them click. Occasionally the contact for the micro switch will get bent and will have to be replaced. Also verify the configuration through the menus on the printer.

4. Defective Paper Control Sensor PCB - These do fail and will need to be replaced.

Fix Error code 0xC19A003

For any other 'Ink System Failure ' message or other '0x ' error as listed at the top of this document, follow these solutions to resolve the issue.

Solution one: Reset the printer
The error message might disappear after you turn off the printer and then turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the printer in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the printer.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  2. With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Remove, clean, and reinstall the print head

If the previous solutions did not resolve the problem, the printhead might be installed incorrectly, or there might be ink or debris on the printhead electrical contacts. Follow these steps to check and clean the printhead.

Step one: Remove the printhead

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  2. Open the cartridge access door.
  3. To remove each cartridge, press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it and remove it from the slot.
NOTE: Do not leave the cartridges outside the product longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the product and the cartridges.

 4. Lift the latch handle on the carriage until it stops.

Figure 21: Remove the cartridge

Figure 22: Lift the latch handle

5. Lift the printhead straight up to remove it.

3 - The electrical contacts

CAUTION: Do not touch the ink nozzles. Do not touch the electrical contacts with your finger. Use only cleaning materials to touch the electrical contact areas.

Figure 25: Do not touch the electrical contacts

  1. Gather the following cleaning materials:
  • Several clean, lint-free cloths or papers. Coffee filters and glass-cleaning cloths work well.
  • Distilled or bottled water. Do not use tap water, because it can contain contaminants that can damage the printhead.
2. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Use the damp cloth to wipe the electrical contacts from the bottom to the top. Do not go past the edge between the electrical contacts and the ink nozzles. Repeat this motion until no ink remains on the electrical contacts.

0xc19a0013 or no code displays with the 'Ink System Failure' error Message

Follow these steps to resolve the issue of 'Ink System Failure ' with an accompanying '0xc19a0013 ' error, or no '0x ' error at all.

Solution one: Check the cartridges

The ink system can fail if the cartridges in the printer are installed incorrectly, if the ink in the cartridge is low or out, or if the cartridges are damaged or not correctly vented. Follow these steps to check the cartridges thoroughly and resolve any issues you might find.

Step one: Replace empty or low cartridges

The error prevents you from checking ink levels using the HP software. However, this error can be caused by a low or empty cartridge. If the Ink Alert message displayed before the error occurred, replacing the cartridge might resolve the issue.

Step two: Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly

  • Turn on the product
  • Lift the cartridge access door to open it.
  • To remove the cartridge, press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it, and then remove it from the slot.
Figure 1: Remove the cartridge

NOTE: Do not leave the cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the printer and the cartridges.

  • Examine the vent area, which is located on top of the cartridge, next to the HP logo.

Figure 2: Vent area

  • If an orange tab is attached to any cartridge, remove it.

Figure 3: Orange tab

  • If any of the cartridges have clogged vents, use a pin to clean the vents.

  • Using the colored shape icons for help, slide each cartridge into the correct empty slot, and then press down until the cartridge snaps firmly into place in the slot.

  • Close the cartridge access door.
  • Check the product control panel display.

               * If the error message has disappeared , try printing to check the print quality. If the print quality is acceptable, the issue is resolved and there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
If the print quality is not acceptable , continue to the next step to use the automatic printhead cleaning utility.
               * If the error message persists , continue to the next solution in this document.

Step three: Use the automatic print head cleaning utility

NOTE: The automatic printhead cleaning utility is available only if you installed the HP software that came with your printer.

Follow these steps to use the cleaning utility:

  1. Turn on the product, and then connect it to the computer.
  2. In the Windows system tray, double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) icon ( ).
  3. HP Solution Center opens in a new window.
  4. In HP Solution Center, click Settings .
  5. Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The Printer Toolbox opens.
  6. Click Clean the Print head , and then follow the on-screen instructions. The product prints a test page when the printhead cleaning completes.

  • If the print quality is acceptable on the test page then there is no need to continue to troubleshoot.
  • If the print quality is not acceptable, repeat the automatic printhead cleaning procedure again. If the print quality is still not acceptable, continue to the next solution.

Linux Printer Installation

You can use a variety of tools to administer printers in CUPS. Some are special to your distribution, some are free and some arecommercial. We tested CUPS mostly on a PC running SuSE Linux. We cannot say much about the use of CUPS with any other Linux distribution like RedHat or Linux Mandrake, but it should be very similar on any other system.

Two ways on how to install a printer are shown in the following:

1. a GUI based installation (using the ESP web interface)

2. an installation with command line tools

GUI based installation example

AS mentioned before, the ESP web interface is included in any CUPS version. You can use it for printer administration and job management. To show this example, we used the web interface provided by CUPS. It is accessible via Port 631, the standard port for IPP and CUPS. It is no problem if you have CUPS and other servers on the same machine while using this port.

1. Just type the following URL:
http://localhost:631
if you are working locally on your server
http://[server-name]:631
This procedure will lead you to the starting page of the web interface.  Choose "Manage Printers" here to get to the printer overview. This screen shows you all printers installed on your system and their current status. Printers marked green are ready to print, printers marked red with an open tray are stopped. In that case you have to check whether there is a problem

2. In order to install a new one, choose "Add Printer" here.

3. Then you have to give a name to your new printer.

4. In this step you have to choose the type of connection that you are using for the printer you like to install. Possible settings you can choose are:

• Disk File
• App Socket /HP Jet Direct
• Internet printing protocol
• LPR/LPD Host or printer
• Parallel or serial ports

5. Now you have to put in a valid IP-address and a remote queuename for your printer.

6. Now choose your manufacturer. All the manufacturer names offered in this list and the model names offered in the list in Step 7 are generated by CUPS while using the PPD files stored in
/usr/share/cups/model/[name of manufacturer]

If your printer does not appear in this list, please make sure that there is a PPD file for it in this location. If it is not, get one and just copy it to this location.

7. Now you have to choose a printer. If your printer does not appear in the list you have to install a PPD file on your system. To install a PPD you have to copy it to
/usr/share/cups/model/[konicaminolta]
and restart your CUPS server with the commands
Linux: # /etc/init.d/cups restart
or
Linux: # rccups restart
The last one does not work on every system, but in SuSE Linux it does. You need to be logged in as root to do that (or use the “Speruser” command SU).
Now your printer is installed and ready to be configured.

Fix Canon Error 5200

Canon printers are one of my favorite print devices. I have been using them in my office since a long time and they work great for me. Before a couple of month I purchased Canon PIXMA IP2770 to print photos (By the way, I have a 12MP Canon ELPH 310 HS camera). It worked according to my expectations and I was quite satisfied with it while it suddenly started to show “Error 5200”.

I restarted the printer and it gone but came again while sending a new print job. After consulting a canon technician and searching a lot of websites I understood that the 5200 error is the print head exceeds temperature error condition. It means that one or more ink cartridges gone empty and printing was continued resulting in printhead burning. Luckily a lot of canon ink cartridges come with new printhead so it should not be a big problem. Unplug both cartridges and replace them with a new one.

Fix Samsung SCX Errors and Reset

Samsung SCX series printers (SCX-4521, SCX-5530, SCX-6220, SCX-6320, SCX-6322) are piece of office equipment for use at home or in small business. These space-saving All-in-One printers provide high quality laser printing, high color digital scanning, copying and faxing.

User can press “Menu” key on display to go through the menus and choices. There are many that are useful to the technicians. You can set the machine to continue copying if toner empty or to stop if toner empty. If you wish it to continue, go to “ignore toner empty” and set it to “ON”. Density, paper feed, power save, etc are also adjusted here. Go to “Reports” and then to “billing/Counters” for total count. You can also print out a report which will tell you all of the user choices and what their current setting is, which probably includes total count also.

SCX 5530 Drum Reset:

After replacing the drum with a new one, press “Menu” and then press up/down keys until “New Drum” displays. Then press “Mode/enter”. When you see “New drum unit?” press “1” to select yes and to reset the drum count.

fix Error 5100 in Canon Printers

Most commonly this error occurs when a piece of paper stick inside the printer. Remove all the cartridges and try to find the paper. If printer is dirty clean it well by using an air blower.

In some models error 5100 indicates a print head jam. Check it manually, clean and lubricate the shaft if necessary.

Error 5100 may also means that waste ink tanks needs to be replaced. The “tanks” are basically super absorbent pads on the bottom of the printer to absorb extra ink from the print head. A waste ink counter keeps track and displays Error 5100 after a specified number of cleaning cycles. At this time you have two choices:

Solution 1:
Since the ink counter indicates a specified number of cleaning cycles have gone through, the best thing would be to replace or clean the ink pads/ink tanks. To do this, you’ll have to contact Canon and ask them to do it for you. Or if you are good with DIY jobs, you can do it yourself too though its fairly risky since you might damage your printer.

Both of these solutions here might be inappropriate, the first because sending a printer to Canon for repair would be as expensive and DIY jobs aren’t something everyone can do, so you can skip ahead to:

Solution 2:
Since the counter has reached its limit and that’s the only thing stopping you from printing again, you simply reset the counter and start printing. This will prolong your printer’s life by a big margin, and incase it stops working after a few months or years, you can simply resort to Step 1 and replace the ink tanks or buy a new printer instead.

Here’s how to reset the counter:
  • Turn the printer off.
  • Now Press and Hold the resume button and press and hold the power button aswell. A buzzer will sound once.
  • Keep on holding down the Power button (do not let it go!) and release the Resume button. Now press the resume button twice (do not press and hold, simply press twice) and then release the Power button.
  • The indicator on your printer should now be green. Press the resume button three times followed by pressing the Power button once. A buzzer will sound, and the printer will switch off after that.

Fix error C000 on Canon Pixma MX870

Solution 1:

  • Switch off the printer
  • Disconnect the power cable
  • Open door:

  • Remove the orange protective tape (A) and remove the white polystyrene (protective equipment) (B).

  • Verify in the printer there is no protective equipment:

  • Close the door.
  • Connect the cable and switch on.

Solution 2 :

Check for any foreign body in the printer: piece of paper, paper clip...
Check for any paper jams.

Samsung Printer Error Codes

There have been several models of the Samsung Laser Printer released into the market. However, many of them seem to pose various degrees of problems. Here are some of the common error codes along with tips on troubleshooting:

Error message: Scanning error

This error message is essentially a hardware error. You could try to replace the USB cable. Sometimes poor quality cables cannot transmit the large data needed by a scanner.

Error message: paper jam

This happens when the paper has got stuck in your Samsung Laser Printer. You need to check the sensor located beside exit rollers. Maybe it is in incorrect position, or is damaged. If nothing works, try replacing it with a new sensor.

Error message: square prints

Sometimes you may experience that your Samsung Laser Printer is printing out squares instead of regular text. It can happen if you are using Firefox or printing content from sites which do not recognize the font used in the text. To fix this problem you will need to reinstall all relevant drivers. If this doesn’t help then visit the printers and faxes folder, select your printer and choose the properties.
Error message: missing print

Sometimes, a portion of your page could be devoid of print. It can happen because of incorrect paper size configuration. Check the settings and try again.

Error code: H2

This error code indicates that there is a problem with the fuser warming up. Make sure all the cables are in connection and that no point is missing.

Error message: Media tray empty

Sometimes even if the tray is loaded with paper you could be getting this error message on your Samsung Laser Printer. Try updating the drivers by visiting the Samsung site. This should rectify issues.

Error: Toner light still on

After replacement of the toner cartridge you might still find the toner light switched on continually. You need to check on the fuse located on the front side of the cartridge. You could try replacing this with a 50 mp one. This error usually occurs in the Samsung SCX-4216F.

Error code: 24

This error code indicates that there is too much overload as far as the print job is concerned. You can select the button called ‘continue’ and then try reducing the amount of print job.

Error code: 50

This indicates a malfunction in the fuser. It means the fuser is not heating up. Try switching off your Samsung Laser Printer or resetting the printer for around 15 minutes and then switch it on again. In case this does not solve the problem, it could indicate a fault in the fuser assembly or in the AC power.

Error code: 16

This error code means that the toner is low. That means the distribution of the toner inside the cartridge is inadequate. You need to take out the cartridge and move it back and front gently. If this does not work try replacing the cartridge. You could also try cleaning up the contacts.
